Seamanship and boat handling are carried out under the tutorage of our training officer. Mock rescues using member’s own boats, yachts etc are carried out on a regular basis and in a manner as realistic as possible. The members train every week of the year.
All members hold VHF radio licenses, which are only issued on passing the prescribed State examination.
All members attend training in basic first aid, with another one-third holding certificates in advanced first aid. Local ambulance paramedics attend the base during winter training to assist members in brushing up on First Aid.
Members attend navigation, weather/tides, and search and rescue theory lectures.
All training is carried out in an enthusiastic manner.
