The Steering Committee to their credit made at the time of formation a decision that is still uncompromisingly adhered to.

Due to the nature of the organisation and the life threatening, situations that members will be placed in, any equipment that is purchased will be “the best that can be acquired”

Our equipment list is extensive. Below are some of the items used in day-to-day operations:

  • 7.1 meter Noosa Cat vessel (built to survey standards) modified for use in marine rescue operations.
  • 5.8 meter Noosa Cat (built to survey standards) modified for use in marine rescue operations and training.
  • 8.0 meter Couga Cat (built to survey standards & in survey) modified for use in marine rescue operations and training. This vessel operates out of Hastings.
  • Several VHF and 27 megahertz radios.
  • Satellite navigation units on both boats.
  • Radio equipped Nissan 4 wheel drive vehicle permanently attached to the vessel for quick reaction.
  • Air-Viva and other first aid necessities.
  • Jordan frame stretcher – Modified by VMR Mornington specifically for marine use.
  • Watersafe aqua stretcher for removal of persons from water suspected of having spinal or internal injuries.

  • Full complement of high quality wet weather gear.
  • Auto dialing personal paging service activated in emergencies by Mornington Police, Melbourne Water Police, Southern Peninsula Rescue or us.

A direct line exists between our base building and the Mornington Police complex to alleviate the likelihood of delays caused through engaged telephone lines.

NB The Watersafe Aqua-Stretcher was conceived, designed, patented and manufactured by members of the Mornington Bay Rescue Service. It is carried by most Victorian Water-based Rescue and Life Saving organisations including the Victorian Water Police.
